Image result for Start a Business With Little to No MoneyIn today’s economy, many people don’t have a lot of excess capital. It used to be if you wanted to start a business and promote your business, it would take a lot of money for direct mail ads, yellow page ads, newspaper ads, & TV campaigns. That’s no longer the case today. You no longer need a big financial investment to create your dream life.
Here are 7 things you can do to start or grow a business, and they are all free.
1. Find a Mentor. Find someone who’s done what it is that you want to do and learn from them. Most people love talking about themselves and their achievements. Talk to them and ask them specific questions. Ask for what you want. You can even find a mentor online. By simply using Google, I found a mentor online that lives in another country. She lives in England. I’ve never met her personally, but I trust her completely. She’s ethical and honest, and she’s helped me out tremendously. You can make some really great connections online. With the internet, it makes things so much easier and faster.
2. Create a Business Plan. Your business plan will help clarify your focus and create a crystal clear vision for your business. A business plan includes a “plan of action” detailing how you’re going to accomplish your goals. It also offers a benchmark by which actual performance can be measured and reviewed. Take some time and create a results-oriented business plan today.
3. Create a FREE Website. There are many ways to create a free website. If you’re brand new to the internet, I recommend using . It’s very easy to use. You can get your site up in 5 minutes. Another free site that I recommend is .
However, doesn’t have all of the features of a self-hosted WordPress blog. A self-hosted WordPress blog is my #1 recommendation if you want to create a professional looking website that’s optimized for search engines, and that’s easy to customize. Self-hosted means that you host your website using a hosting company of your choice. This way, you own your site. You have complete control over it. It can’t be taken down, but you do have to pay for your own domain name & website hosting. Domain names typically cost less than $10 per year. For website hosting, I recommend using . They will host your website for only $4 per month. So, even if you create a self-hosted WordPress blog, it will only cost a few bucks a month.
4. Get FREE Business Cards. If you go to , they will allow you to get 250 business cards for free. Once those 250 run out, you can get another 250 for free. So, take advantage of these free sites. Again, with the advent of the internet, you don’t have to spend a lot of money to start a business.
5. Use . Meetup is the world’s largest network of local groups. More than 2,000 groups get together in local communities each day, each one with the goal of improving themselves or their communities. So, you could find a Meetup group that has something to do with your business or what it is you’re trying to accomplish. And you can visit these groups for free. This could even be a great way to find a mentor, to learn more, to educate yourself more about your type of business.
6. Attend a FREE BNI meeting. BNI stands for Business Networking International, and it’s the largest business networking organization in the world. BNI offers people the opportunity to share ideas, contacts and most importantly, business referrals. There is a fee to join. However, you will be allowed to attend a few meetings for free. So, even if you decide not to join, you could attend 1 of the free meetings, start networking with the people there, and hand out your business cards. I know someone that got several clients from a free BNI meeting. So, it is possible to get business from 1 of the free meetings.
7. Use Social Media. Use social media to build a strategic network of friends/followers on Facebook & Twitter. By strategic network, I mean connecting with potential clients (connecting with people who would be interested in your products and services). This is also called connecting with your “target market.” So, now when you post something to your social media profiles, it’s going out to prospects and potential clients who are interested in what you have to offer.
Remember that over 500 million people are using Facebook and over 200 million are on Twitter. So your target market is definitely using social media. Always remember to make genuine connections & build relationships with your target market. Remember the 90/10 rule. Provide value 90% of the time and only provide information on your products/services 10% of the time. It’s all about giving, caring, and sharing (it’s not about pushing products all the time).
In today’s world, you can actually start a business and promote your business for very little money. You can even do a lot of things for FREE.
Don’t let finances keep you from accomplishing your dreams. Take advantage of all of these FREE resources.
